Strike: FG Evokes ‘No Work, No Pay’ Policy Against Resident Doctors

  The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has invoked the “No Work, No Pay” policy against the  Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors   (NARD) in response to their recent seven-day warning strike. The strike, which began on Monday, was in protest of the continued detention of their abducted colleague, Dr. Ganiyat Popoola-Olawale. In a statement released on Thursday by the ministry’s spokesperson, Ado Bako, the government expressed deep disappointment over NARD’s decision to proceed with the industrial action despite ongoing negotiations. The ministry stated that it had been making significant efforts to resolve the doctors’ concerns and ensure industrial harmony, and that the strike was unnecessary given the progress made in discussions. Poor Accountability Trails N44billion Ecological Funds Disbursed To States, LGAs As Flooding Kills Over 170 Nigerians

  In January 2024, states and local governments got N7.7 billion ecological funds. States received N4.2 billion while local governments received N3.5 billion. Areview of the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) data published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has shown that the sum of N44.9billion was received by states and local governments as ecological funds between January and June 2024. The development comes amid accountability issues on how states spend the monies meant to tackle ecological issues such as flooding and erosion. In January 2024, states and local governments got N7.7 billion ecological funds. States received N4.2 billion while local governments received N3.5 billion. The unusual event has left the family in desperate need of financial support as they struggle to care for the surviving babies. Nafiu, originally from Ilorin in Kwara State, revealed that the  babies  were born in two separate batches on July 7 and August 14, 2024, at a traditional birth attendant’s home. The company, however, said the spill resulting from a leak on the pipeline has been contained and repairs completed. Recall that some residents of Rumuoduwere community in Elelenwo, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, earlier this week decried the oil spill in the area which they said destroyed their farmlands and underground water.
