Security agents arrest suspected vote-buyer with 25.9 million naira in cash in Kaduna.

Security agents in Kaduna arrested a suspected vote-buyer in possession of 25,963,000 naira.

This arrest occurred just hours before Saturday's by-elections in some parts of the state.

The suspect, identified as Shehu Aliyu Patangi, was arrested at around 3:30 a.m. by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, in collaboration with the Department of State Services, at a popular hotel on Turunku Street in Kaduna.

According to the Kaduna State Police Command, preliminary investigations revealed that the large sum of money was intended to induce voters and compromise the integrity of the electoral process. Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspect had already confessed to the crime and pleaded for mercy. Money worth 25.9 million naira was recovered from the alleged vote-buyer for the Kaduna by-election on August 16, 2025.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, as stating: "The suspect was arrested with the said amount, which is believed to have been intended for the voters who had violated the law.

He confessed to the crime and pleaded for mercy." We wish to reiterate that anyone who attempts to undermine the electoral process will face the full force of the law. The Commissioner further warned that the Command will not pardon anyone who engages in vote-buying, violence, or any unlawful act aimed at undermining the polls.

Meanwhile, the Command issued a warning to political actors and their supporters to refrain from acts of violence or disruptions during the elections.

He revealed that credible information indicated plans by some politicians to instigate unrest.

In response, the Security agencies have deployed personnel to polling stations, counting centers, and other strategic hotspots across the state. Money amounting to N25.9 million was recovered from suspected vote buyers for the Kaduna by-election on August 16, 2025.

The Command will act decisively against the troublemakers. “Anyone, regardless of their position, who engages in acts of violence, intimidation, vote buying, or domestic violence will be arrested and prosecuted,” the police said in a statement.

The police also assured residents of the necessary security before, during, and after the elections, urging citizens to come out and exercise their civic duty peacefully. 3:30 a.m.
